What does baking mean to me? I pondered this intriguing question as I worked in the kitchen. What does baking mean to you? Ponder that and let me know!
Asking a thoughtful question
Surprise! Here’s an unexpected post for your Monday. One of my favorite food bloggers, Sally from Sally’s Baking Addiction, asked this intriguing question on her blog today, “What baking means to you?” I pondered that question all day as I set about making homemade chicken stock, baking a mini Sourdough Cinnamon Crumb Cake, and baking Buttery Sourdough Biscuits, both the latter using my weekly sourdough starter discard (yes, it was my happy home day). When I published this post, Sally had almost 200 responses from her readers.
Side note: I’ll post the links to the mini Sourdough Cinnamon Crumb Cake and the Buttery Sourdough Biscuits when those posts go live (I’m still working on them). Here’s a sneak peak…
Baking satisfies many parts of who I am…as an engineer, I love the science and chemistry that goes into each product, the magic that happens when combining disparate ingredients to create something better and yummy. As a chef, I love being able to adapt recipes, trying new ideas to create something that’s uniquely mine. As a blogger, I love to be able to tell the stories surrounding the treats I’m making, sharing loving memories, cute stories, and the trials and tribulations that go into baking. As a mom, food is love…being able to give my family and friends yummy treats lets them know I’m taking care of them. All these touchpoints, and many more, are why baking is important to me.
Now your turn
I’d love to hear what does baking means to you? And if you’re a whisky aficionado (and maybe not a baker), that’s ok…let me know why that’s important to you. I’ve been enjoying reading the comments from Sally’s post, and I’d certainly love to hear yours.
Slainté! L’chaim! Cheers!
